I asked my followers what they thought the design of the word looked like without saying what it meant, they said: soaring bird, wave, dove, mermaid, maiden with flowing hair. And I thought these were perfect interpretations for a word that means ‘Free’. This is ‘Hur’ my latest desgin.

The inspiration behind the design came from the way the word ‘Hur’ seemed to resemble a flying bird to me when written in the Farsi calligraphic tradition, which is known for its concise and fluid lines, giving it a minimalist aesthetic. Especially, when compared to other styles like Diwani and Thuluth, which boast intricate, sweeping curves, or Kufic, with its bold geometric and angular letterforms.

The Farsi calligraphic style was developed in Persia after the introduction of Islam in the 7th century when Persians adapted the Arabic alphabet to Persian and developed the contemporary Persian alphabet. The Arabic alphabet has 28 characters. An additional four letters were added by Iranians, which resulted in the 32 letters currently present in the Persian alphabet.
